Tent Event 2008

Tent Event 2008

For the second year, Coney Hill Baptist Church & St John's ran The Tent Event during the summer half-term holiday.  We worshipped together twice on the first Sunday & the afternoon saw a well-attended & very interesting local history talk given by Joyce Walker.  True to form, the weather closed in for our Bank Holiday Monday, meaning that all activities were under canvas again.  Because we had a huge tent this year we managed to have many more attractions & spirits were high, despite the weather.

The Monday night Barn Dance was a great success.  Then from Tuesday till Friday, scores of children from 0 to 16 came & went, morning & afternoon, with four different programmes being run - Mini-Heroes, Super-Heroes, Create! & Football Focus.  Evening events were also very popular - the men had a quiz & curry night, there was a sumptuous Couples' Evening, the ladies dined regally on the Thursday & the hip-hop evening on the Friday attracted a good crowd of young people.  Each of these events gave people the chance to hear the Gospel & each message was well-received by many who do not normally attend church.

Saturday saw the excellent Parklands’ Nursery Summer Fair with an evening concert given by the local Salvation Army Band.  Fiona Castle spoke very movingly.

Our last Sunday meant more worship together.  There was much to give thanks for, not least the warmth with which local people appreciated our efforts. We look forward to sharing the love of Jesus with our community again next year.
